Conference Alert: The Czech and Slovak 20th Century in Retrospect, NCSML, Cedar Rapids, IA, March 11-12, 2011

The National Czech & Slovak Museum & Library (NCSML) invites proposals for the conference tentatively titled "The Czech and Slovak 20th Century in Retrospect: Transitions to Democracy, 1989 - 2011” to be held in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, March 11-12, 2011.

Accepted topics may include those pertaining to the events surrounding the Velvet Revolution; the transition from communism to democracy; the Velvet Divorce; foreign relations between the newly formed Czech Republic and Slovakia and the rest of the international community; foreign investment; military affairs; arts, culture and religion within a post-communist context; and personal accounts of this era.

Individual papers should be no more than 45 minutes each; presentations on panel discussions should be no more than 20 minutes. The working language is English.
