Scholarship for Slovaks Living Abroad


The Ministry of Education of the Slovak Republic sponsors a Government Scholarship Program. The details of the scholarship program are as follows:

  • Areas of study: All disciplines except medical sciences, dentistry and pharmacology
  • Academic year: 2009-2010
  • Scholarship can be for undergraduate or graduate study
  • Slovak Language Training: The program includes one year preparatory language training at Comenius University in Bratislava
  • Slovak University: Candidates may select any study program of their interest at any accredited university in Slovakia. Courses are taught in Slovak.
  • Scholarship provides:
    • A monthly grant of approximately EUR. 250, which is sufficient to cover accommodation at student halls of residence and food in student dining halls.
    • Tuition is covered by the scholarship.
  • Travel to and from Slovakia: Applicants are responsible for their own travel expenses to and from Slovakia.

Who is eligible?: Slovaks living abroad (defined as those with Slovak ancestry) who meet the other required qualifications.

Application Deadline: Applications must be received by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Slovak Republic by May 30, 2009. If assistance is desired from the Slovak Embassy, applications must be received by the Embassy by May 1, 2009.

  • Proof of education level completion (including superlegalization requirement – please contact the Embassy). For Washington, DC the required “Apostille” stamp proving a document is valid and legal can be obtained at:
